Two people were injured following a traffic collision in Butte County on Monday afternoon, February 9, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to the scene around 12:36 p.m. on Highway 70 at the Highway 149 split.
One vehicle was found disabled in the center median, where a female driver was trapped inside. A second vehicle involved in the crash sustained significant rear-end damage and was located on the right shoulder.
Authorities said the collision occurred during Caltrans roadway work, which had resulted in lane closures and slowed traffic in the area. One driver reported being stopped for several seconds before being struck by a gold SUV.
CHP reported that the driver of the SUV was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. The other driver involved reported neck pain.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
