A man was killed after an incident involving a pedestrian and a garbage truck in Contra Costa County on Friday afternoon, February 6, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol Contra Costa County Area Office, officers responded just after 2:30 p.m. to the westbound lanes of Highway 4 at San Marco Boulevard. CHP confirmed that one man died.
Authorities said traffic was impacted following the crash, with the numbered 3 and 4 lanes remaining blocked as of 4 p.m. The numbered 1 and 2 lanes remained open, and the San Marco Boulevard off-ramp was accessible to drivers.
Officials stated that it was not immediately clear what led to the incident. There was no estimated timeframe for the blocked lanes to reopen.
The cause is under investigation.
