Two motorists were injured following a two-vehicle collision that sparked a fire on Highway 79 just south of Beaumont on Monday afternoon, February 2, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at around 12:15 p.m. on the northbound side of Highway 79 near County Landfill Road.
Investigators said one vehicle struck the rear of another for reasons that have not yet been determined.
CHP officials reported that both vehicles came to rest in the No. 2 lane of the four-lane roadway. Riverside County Fire Department crews arrived within minutes and found flames coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle that rear-ended the other car. Both drivers were able to escape before the fire was extinguished.
Authorities stated that one motorist sustained moderate injuries while the other suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment.
The collision remains under investigation.
