A wrong-way driver caused a multi-vehicle crash, resulting in injuries, on Interstate 5 near Maxwell in Colusa County on Friday morning, January 31, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes north of Maxwell Road.
Authorities reported that a driver traveling north in the southbound lanes struck a vehicle. The impacted driver attempted to swerve but was clipped, causing it to sideswipe another vehicle in the slow lane.
Only minor injuries were reported. CHP does not suspect drugs or alcohol as factors but believes the elderly driver from Willows may have been suffering from dementia.
All lanes have since been cleared, and traffic has returned to normal. The crash remains under investigation.
