An 18-year-old first-year female student was killed, and two others sustained serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash in San Benito County on Sunday, January 28, 2025.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at about 5:03 p.m. when a vehicle traveling east on San Justo Road, east of San Juan Highway, lost control. The car crossed into opposing lanes before veering off the highway and overturning in a dirt field.
The front passenger, identified by the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office as 18-year-old Jolie O. from Merced, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a left-rear passenger were airlifted to a nearby hospital with suspected serious injuries.
Authorities have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
