One person was killed, and another was injured in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Mendocino County on Monday night, January 26, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported around 9:25 p.m. on Highway 101 south of Rattlesnake Summit and north of Laytonville.
Investigators said a Ford Escape was traveling southbound when it crossed the double yellow lines and sideswiped a Chevrolet Silverado carrying four occupants, as well as a Freightliner big rig.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle came to rest straddling the double yellow lines. CHP said the Chevrolet struck a dirt embankment, overturned, and came to rest on its side. A passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
The identity of the deceased driver has not yet been released.
The crash remains under investigation.
