One was killed, and another was injured after an SUV crashed onto tracks at the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station in Pittsburg early Thursday morning, January 23, 2025. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 3:45 a.m. when a BMW X5 heading eastbound on Highway 4 near Bailey Road veered across traffic lanes. It left the freeway before crashing through barriers and coming to a stop on the tracks roughly a hundred feet south of the Bay Point station.
A male occupant of the SUV was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A female occupant sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet determined who was driving the vehicle.
The incident caused significant disruptions to BART services, with electrical power shut down and repairs needed to the third rail and track infrastructure. Service between Antioch and the North Concord station was suspended until 7:47 a.m. when BART officials confirmed that the SUV had been removed and repairs completed.
Highway 4’s eastbound lanes were partially closed for nearly four hours as authorities investigated the crash.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the CHP Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980. The investigation remains ongoing.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
