[01-22-2026] Alameda County, CA – Overturned Big-Rig Causes Lane Blockage on Highway 24 Near Caldecott Tunnel.webpWestbound lanes on Highway 24 near the Caldecott Tunnel in Oakland reopened Thursday evening following a crash involving an overturned big-rig on January 22, 2026.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. near State Highway 13.

The collision was triggered when a Subaru made an unsafe lane change into the path of a Nissan. The Subaru slowed to a stop due to traffic and was rear-ended by the Nissan, which was then struck by a Peterbilt big-rig towing a 53-foot trailer filled with cardboard. The big rig overturned, and cardboard from the semi hit a Ford pickup truck.

The collision blocked all lanes on Highway 24. Traffic was diverted to the northbound Highway 13 until the westbound lanes reopened around 6:15 p.m.

The driver of the big rig complained of pain in their right leg and left arm and was transported to Highland Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
