A 66-year-old woman died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the road in Encinitas on Sunday evening, January 19, 2025.
According to the deputies with the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station, the collision occurred just before 7:00 p.m. in the 900 block of North Coast Highway 101. Deputies reported that a possibly light-colored sport utility vehicle hit the woman while she was in the roadway and immediately fled the scene.
Emergency responders transported the woman to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is currently unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role.
