A woman and her three young children sustained minor injuries after being struck by a distracted driver at a Chico intersection on Monday afternoon, January 13, 2025.
According to the Chico Police Department, officers responded to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash at the intersection of Nord Avenue and W. Sacramento Avenue around 2:35 p.m.
The mother and her children, ages three, five, and six, were crossing in a marked crosswalk with a green light. Two of the children were in a stroller while the six-year-old walked beside them.
Milo C., 48, of Chico, was driving a pickup truck and turned left on a green light, failing to notice the family in the crosswalk due to reading a text message. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The mother and all three children were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. One child was kept overnight for observation and required stitches.
The driver was cited for distracted driving and released at the scene. The Chico Police Department reminds the public that using a cell phone at a red light is a violation and contributes to dangerous driving behaviors.
No further details were immediately available.
