A traffic collision left one driver dead and the other under arrest in East Oakland on Sunday night, January 11, 2026.
The crash occurred around 7:04 p.m. in the 4400 block of Oakport Street, near the on-ramp to southbound Interstate 880.
According to initial police reports, a 55-year-old man was driving a Nissan pickup truck eastbound on Oakport Street, attempting to enter the freeway, when his vehicle collided with a Nissan Altima.
Police said the Altima driver, who was unlicensed, was traveling westbound on Oakport Street and failed to yield before the crash. The 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan Altima remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving without a valid license. The crash is under investigation.
