A driver was killed in a crash involving two big rigs on westbound Interstate 580 in Tracy early Tuesday morning, January 6, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. east of International Parkway.
CHP said a white Volvo big rig, traveling in the No. 2 lane, collided with the rear end of another big rig and trailer that was stopped in traffic. The impact pushed both trucks across all westbound lanes and into the center median.
The driver of the Volvo was pinned inside the cab of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s identity has not been released.
CHP confirmed that the driver of the other truck was uninjured, and no arrests were made. Authorities have not yet determined if drugs, alcohol, or driver distraction played a role in the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
