A driver was killed in a multi-vehicle collision involving a wrong-way vehicle on Highway 99 near the Clinton Avenue off-ramp in Fresno on Sunday afternoon, January 4, 2026.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 2:00 p.m. when a 58-year-old Fresno man was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 in a Ford Ranger.
CHP said the wrong-way driver was traveling in the No. 1 southbound lane after entering from Olive Avenue before colliding south of Clinton Avenue. A Ford Bronco, driven by a 24-year-old woman, and a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 63-year-old woman, were traveling southbound toward the oncoming vehicle.
Authorities said the driver of the Ford Bronco attempted to avoid the collision, but a head-on crash occurred, blocking the No. 1 and No. 2 southbound lanes. The Chevrolet Equinox was unable to avoid the collision and also became involved.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The drivers of the Ford Bronco and Chevrolet Equinox were taken to the hospital, though their conditions were not disclosed.
CHP said it was not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, pending toxicology results. The investigation is ongoing.

What A Lawyer Can Do For You
Many victims put off calling a lawyer even if they sustain injuries after an accident. However, lawyers can help you in many ways. They can provide you with police reports, CCTV footage, and witness statements to strengthen your case. Your attorney will also negotiate with insurance companies to get you fair compensation. The best part is that they will do all of these things for you at no upfront cost. So if you’re injured in an accident, hire a personal injury attorney to recover medical bills, car repair costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
